For this lab, you need a case, a power supply, a Power Cord, four hex screws (which we will call case screws), a PS Tester, and a screwdriver.
First, you need to examine the molex. It looks like:
This is a 24 pin molex. you may have 20 pins or a 20+4 pin molex. These look similar. See how many you have.
If you have a case with a PS with a 24 pin molex, then you are all set. Otherwise, either put the PS in the case or remove the old one and replace it with a 20+4 pin one (the Antec box). Turn in the old PS. Be sure the screws are in the right place and be careful they line up properly.
Document what you did in the lab manual (replace, what you took out, what you put in. Serial numbers are nice. Any problems you had with the case, etc.
Once you have the PS in the case. You need the tester. It looks like:
You plug the molex into the long side. It only fits one way. Don't force it. Check the PS switch. It should be pressed wiht the 0 down. This is off. Get a cord and connect it. Plug it into a power outlet. (there should be one on the table that is already plugged in.). Make sure you can see the top of the tester. Make sure you are not in the case or touching anything. Turn on the switch (press it to 1). You should see a green light for 12V+, 3.3+ and -, 5+ and -. Turn it off and document your results. If any lights fail, you should document this as well and see the instructor about the PS.
Enter notes in your lab manual.
